What's a useful life of a panel? I would say 10, 15 years. Most manufacturers are trying to come out with replacement panels every 10 or 15 years. Then I'd add that they're enforcing the sun setting of those old panels, they've gotten better at stopping part availability for the older panels. Correct. Technology is moving at such a rapid pace these days that somebody will come out, manufacturers will come out with a new fire panel and then two years or three years later, there's additions that the technology has surpassed what that panel could do. And so, you know, 10 or 15 years is usual. But there are some that are out there that, "hey, you know, we're going to sunset this one early and, and come out because we've got some new features available for this one."
So, I think that 10 to 15 years is a good assessment for detectors. I think that we definitely see systems out there that after 15 years the detectors need to be replaced. The advanced detectors, that's happening, Veda, they've got new technology coming out and the old technology really needs to go because there aren't parts/filters for it. The software even that supports those detectors, you know, that's not available. The panels though, I would think that they go a little bit longer. I think 10 to 15 years could be startling for an owner out there considering something. And we see lots of panels. I mean, honestly, we still every once in a while get a picture from a technician from something that was a dinosaur put back in the eighties.
I mean, I hate to think how long ago the eighties was, when I was trading stickers, man, listening to Michael Jackson in my high tops, that's a long time. That's a long time. I think we need to, well I would just say longer than that for panels, but there is a sense there's a sunset out there eventually, and I think manufacturers are planning that a little bit more and more as we go forward.
