Medical Diagnostic equipment, such as CT scanners and MRI Units, represents significant investment for hospitals and HMOs. The results of tests conducted with this type of leading-edge equipment are becoming more and more critical to doctors for early diagnosis of illness. In addition, the equipment represents an important revenue stream to any healthcare facility.

The fire risk to this equipment is primarily electrical, with high voltage and large cabinets containing coils of insulated wire. While these areas are normally kept scrupulously clean, the combination of high voltage, heat generation and substantial amounts of flammable insulation make for a high fire risk.

Diagnostic facilities require an active FM200 Automatic Suppression System integrated with an exceptionally fast Air Sampling Smoke Detection system. The use of Air Sampling Smoke Detection inside equipment cabinets detects particles of combustion even before there's smoke to provide the extra time needed to remove patients in an orderly manner and address the fire situation (often without activating the fire suppression system).
