As
a life safety system, the primary function of a Fire Detection
and Alarm system is for notification and evacuation of personnel.
A Fire Detection system can add the secondary benefit of providing
a much earlier warning of a fire when compared to buildings
protected exclusively by a sprinkler system. |
A building or local fire alarm system provides audible
and/or visible alarm signals as the result of the manual operation
of a fire alarm pullstation, the automatic operation of a fire detector,
such as a smoke or heat detector, or the automatic operation of
protective equipment, such as a sprinkler system. Various factors
such as local codes, building size, and occupancy class will affect
the requirements for these systems. Some features typically found
in these systems include but are not limited to voice evacuation,
fire-fighter communication, and computer video graphic annunciation.
